We are delighted to finally share our Tiny Forest-inspired STEM Challenges for Key Stage 2 (Forests and Biodiversity) and Key Stage 3 (Forests and Cities)!
These STEM Challenges introduce the benefits of urban trees to local wildlife, city residents and their wellbeing. It shares the scientific approaches of the Tiny Forest citizen science protocols, with sound evidence-based science at the heart, while also providing activities adapted to your local park or green space.
It consists of 4 shorter activities to scaffold new learning and experiences, a homework task for the pupils to explore their local area, and the Challenge which includes design and presentation (and maybe even construction!) of their ideas. The STEM Challenges have been designed to fit flexibly in your timetable, whether you decide to block time out to complete it, or progress in weekly sessions.
You can download both the KS2 and KS3 STEM Challenges from our home page, and if you take on the STEM Challenge with your class, please let us know at education@earthwatch.org.uk so we can celebrate with you and receive any feedback! Good luck!
