LEGO, alongside other founding members of this movement, have announced today that the United Nations are adopting an International Day of Play to champion and protect children’s right to play.
This movement seeks to raise awareness about children's birth right to play that is included in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified human rights treaty in the world.
However, research shows that there are significant challenges in the way. Only 30% of adults are aware that play is a fundamental birth right, three in five (59%) children would like to play more than they do now, and four in five (79%) of children would like to play more with their parents or carers.
Therefore, 11th June has been selected as the annual International Day of Play. Why not take this day to celebrate and reflect on the power of creativity, curiosity, awe and inspiration that children experience when playing and learning about the world around them?
